Talbot Road
Country: UK, Location: London, UK, Project Type: Residential, Client: Private, Architect: 4M Architecture, Value: Undisclosed, Year: 2008.

What had previously been five separate flats on five levels was merged into a single dwelling house. Due to the typical narrow floor plan of this Victorian West London house, each level has been opened up  allowing for a spacious, stylish and minimalist interior design.
The lower ground floor was extended into the back garden and made into a kitchen and dining area. It features glass doors allowing light and access to the back garden.

An open floor living room, entertainment area and bar was constructed on the ground floor. It is entirely furnished by 4M, designed and constructed in minimal, stylish lines, contrasting and complementing the traditional exterior of the building.

The master bedroom is placed on the first floor, with specially designed high-end features such as walk in wardrobe and master bathroom.

Two guest bedrooms and a bathroom are constructed on the second floor.

The third floor hosts a unique gym and recreation area. What was before a cramped loft has been opened up making space for an exercise and boxing area, and a visible steam room and shower room, separated by glass doors.

The entire interior was demolished in the process of redesigning, keeping only the façade and outer walls. Due to regulations the structural support is not able to rely on the neighbouring semi-detached houses. Solving this, the reconstruction of the interior floors rests instead on inside structures. A close collaboration between builder and designer has meant that design alterations and solutions can happen immediately onsite without compromising the overall design language. In this way the design and construction process has been overseen throughout by the architectural designer who has been on-site on a daily basis.
